Allowed areas for kitesurfing

Kite zones of Punta Trettu in Sardinia

Kitesurfing in Punta Trettu is not allowed everywhere.

  • The water space where kitesurf is allowed can be divided in 2 areas :
  • Riding area

Teaching area, dedicated to the kitesurf lessons taught by authorized instructors only

The two areas are easily identifiable thanks to a natural barrier consisting of a sand bank with shallow water, which at low tide emerges out of the water and represents the division between the two areas.
The areas can be identified by standing with the back to the North-West and the eye on South-East, as:

  • Left side of the aforementioned sand bank (Riding area)
  • Right side of the aforementioned sand bank (Teaching area)

On the ground there is a specific area for the launch and landing of kitesurfing, also indicated by artificial limitations.

Prohibited areas for kitesurfing

It is not allowed to launch and land kitesurfing in areas outside the land authorized and duly indicated by the consortium.
The shore in front of the harbour (pier) and in front of the municipal car park is a prohibited area.
Similarly, kitesurfing is not allowed near the pier for mooring boats, in front of the municipal parking lot and the historic navigation channel, used by boats to leave and reach the port of Sant’Antioco.
The navigation channel can be identified by green and red buoys, by signal poles, as well as by signs placed on the beach. Kitesurfing in these areas is strictly prohibited by the current ordinances of the Port Authority of Sant’Antioco.

For these reasons, it is recommended that when the rider arrives in Punta Trettu is already informed about the areas where kitesurfing is allowed.
Furthermore, the rider must read the rules outlined in this document.

Civil liability insurance (RC insurance)

Kitesurfing, in Italy, is practicable where permitted by current ordinances and laws.
However, the Italian law requires that every person who practices kitesurfing is protected by an RC insurance (civil liability), covering for any damage to things and third parties.
If you have like to kitesurf and you do not have a RC insurance, you could contact one of the kite schools of the consortium and do one.
Respect the law and other people!
