Taking in account the kite learning scale, we can divide kitesurfers in 2 main groups: Advanced and Beginners. Advanced on kitesurf are people that already did kitesurfing lessons and that are able to ride upwind (they have reached the Kite Level 5 of the kite learning scale); Beginner on kitesurf are people that have never done kitesurf or people that did kitesurfing lessons in the past but have not yet reached the level 5 of the kite learning scale (people not able to ride upwind).
I am not Advanced but I had kite lessons in the past. Which is the Kite Course for me?
In case you are not completely beginner as you have already taken kite lessons in the past, and you would like to get the next kite level, consider that:
in order do not loose time, we will not start from the beginning if you do not need it: we will check your kite level at the first kite lesson and we will start the kite course with the skills you need to improve;
the average time needed to most of people to complete each kite level is approximately 3 hours of kite lessons. So, with a kite course of 3 hours, you should be able to get one kite level, with a kite course of 6 hours you should be able to get two kite levels, with a kite course of 9 hours you should be able to get three kite levels, and so on. For exemple, if your Kite Level is 3 and you would like to get Kite Level 4, you would need approximatly 3 hours of kite lessons (so you would need a kite course of three hours).
Anyway, please note that the individual attitudes to learn kitesurfing can be very different from student to student. Those attitudes can depend on age, athletic and mental conditions, etc, and therefore the time needed to learn kitesurf can be different for each student.

Weather and Windforecast in Punta Trettu
Now, for sure, you are wondering where you can check the weather and wind forecasts for Punta Trettu. Here below you can find the best weather and wind forecasts websites.
Anyway, you should keep in mind that often, thanks to the local thermal winds, not predicted by the weather forecasts, the wind can be even between 5 and 10 knots stronger than what is expected by Windguru and Windfinder forecasts.
The models of weather forecasts have approximatly 50 km resolution so they can’t predict wind conditions on exact spot. In a weather forecast website / model you can see a forecast “in that area” but real wind conditions on a specific spot can be determined by local effects. Locals effect are determined by many factors and just the locals know how are working the thermal winds.
So, our suggestion is to get a service from a local kiteschool in order don’t miss any day of Kitesurfing.

Punta Trettu Kite Beach: a Paradise for Kitesurfing
First kiters discovered Punta Trettu in 2008 and from 2010 several kite schools started to use Punta Trettu Kite Beach for kitesurfing lessons.
“In 2009, I heard that Punta Trettu was a paradise for kitesurfing. When I went there in 2010 for the first time, it felt in love with Punta Trettu: warm, shallow and flat water, steady winds, sandy bottom. It was really a Kite Paradise”, says Lucas one of founders of KiteGeneration, now based in Punta Trettu.
Definitely Punta Trettu is a Paradise for Kitesurfing, with exceptional flat and shallow water conditions, perfect for all kite levels. Punta Trettu Kite Beach, one of the best kite spots in the World.

The kite Spot of Punta Trettu
I went to Punta Trettu Sardinia last summer with all my family (all of us we are now kitesurfing) and we were amazed about this kite beach: Flat and shallow water, and incredible wind statistics with steady wind almost every day. The spot has a high exposure to the winds and you can kitesurf with the mistral, the sirocco and other winds. The thermal wind works very well during the spring and the summer: you should always consider 5 or 8 knots more as stated by windguru.
The Kite spot of Punta Trettu is perfect for all levels, the water is flat everywhere and you can find a space with hundred meters of mirror-flat water even with a very strong wind. Beginners can learn without the pressure to have to swim against the waves. The advanced riders can practice their jumps and do tricks since the waves are not existing.
I recommend to wear rubber shoes because can be found big shells on the sandy backdrop of the spot
Punta Trettu Kitesurf Paradise, that is what I can say!. And I think there are not other places like this place in Europe.
Our Kitesurfing experience in Punta Trettu
All was perfect there in Punta Trettu!
We had always good wind and sunny days in Punta Trettu. Kitesurfing with those weather conditions was fantastic and lovely.
My doughtier started a beginner kite course and after few days she started to kite. For sure the conditions of the spot helped a lot but the instructors were always very good.
My son, as his is very young, leaned some kite piloting.
My wife an i alterate in our kitesurfing sessions… they were amazing!
The Kite School in Punta Trettu
In Punta Trettu we got the services from Punta Trettu Kite Center & Cafè , a brnach of KiteGeneration.
The instructors are simply amazing, knowledgeable, concerned with safety, and they are really patient.
The team of the Punta Trettu Kite Center & Cafè was very nice, funny and friendly. We felt like in a community and not in a business, and that is very important for us!
The material of the kite school is renews each year and that ensure a real good safety, that while kitesurfing is very important.
There is a kite & surf house-bar where you can relax and wait for the wind, grab a snack, a coffee or a beer, and get to know each other. There are outdoor showers, bathrooms, and wireless.

Punta Trettu (that means “straight tip”) is coastal area located in the South of Sardinia, in the distrcit of San Giovanni Suergiu and close to the small village of Matzaccara. Punta Trettu is a place that is becoming more and more popular among kitesurfers and the people that like to learn kitesurfing, due to the perfect features for practicing this sport.

Punta Trettu, Sardinia
The sea of Punta Trettu is like an emerging marine sector with characteristics and conditions typical of lagoon systems. In fact Punta Trettu has a rich marine vegetation and a sandy and pebble sandy bottom with shallow water almost everywhere. Because the shallow water (about 20 to 30 inches) for several tens of meters from the shore, bathing is unmanageable. In addition, in Punta Trettu, the wind blows constantly for a high percentage of days during the year with a wind constant and direct and never gusty whatever direction it blows from.

It is a real paradise for kitesurfers, one of the beast spot for kitesurfing in the World.
Punta Trettu: the kite spot hidden in the South of Sardinia
Sardinia, an island universally recognized as the “Maui of the Mediterranean” thanks to the constant winds, common waves, crystal clear sea and wild coasts, offers spectacular weather conditions all year round.
In Sardinia there are many kite and windsurf spots such as Porto Pollo, San Teodoro, Stintino,Capo Mannu famous all over the world. In fact , from North to South of Sardinia there are very different atmospheres as well as various coasts characterized by spectacular nature and different meteorologc conditions.
The northern Sardinia has more jagged shores, mostly rocky beaches and only a few and long sandy beaches. It is mostly mountainous with the typical elegant granitic areas shaded by myrrh and juniper.
The southern coast of Sardinia is more heterogeneous, the coasts are less jagged, less crowded than the North even during the high season and breathe a more peaceful and genuine atmosphere. On the beach, for example, it is much easier to find sardinian people, fishermen, and families on a daily trip.
Just hidden in this stretch of coast, more precisely in the district of San Giovanni Suergiu, close to the small Village of Matzaccara, in front of Sant’Antioco, there is the kite spot of Punta Trettu, that in past years has become the favorite destination of many kiters. Punta Trettu is a 600 meters tongue of earth that dives into a beautiful kite spot that offers perfect conditions for kitesurfing:
a huge bay of transparent water that comes almost always to the knees, protected by three sides and exposed to winds of Mistral and Scirocco.
The barren sandy bottom completes this magic kite spot that even in case of ”photonic” winds has flat water just like in the Brazilian lagoons of Cauipe, Tabuba, Jericoacoara or Barra Grande. From beginner to pro rider, everyone can enjoy this wonderful kitesurf spot.
First kiters discovered Punt Trettu in 2008 and since 2010 several kite schools have are coming.
“In 2009 I heard of Punta Trettu was a kite surfing paradise. When I kitesurfed here in 2010 for the first time, it have been an incredible feeling the sensation of having a kite spot in Sardinia that just few kiters in world knew. The spot is immense, the water is hot almost all year and the winds blow steady, depending on the day, in a range between 10 and 30 knots. The sand bottoms are low, so ideals for beginners that can always walk on the ground when they fall. Then the location is wild, totally immersed in nature even if it is just one step away from all the services”, says Matias one of the founders of KiteGeration (KG), one of the biggest Kite School in Sardinia that has a headquarter even in Punta Trettu.
Like a small kite paradise, Punta Trettu is a tip of land just opposite the island of Sant ‘Antioco in the South of Sardinia. This fantastic kite spot offers perfect conditions for kitesurfing thanks to the good wind, shallow and flat water.
In the south-west of Sardinia, just opposite the island of Sant ‘Antioco, a small narrow land extends into the sea. It is made just for kitesurfing.
Love at first sight with Punta Trettu
This kite flat water spot has a sandy bottom with sand and seagrass. Super with the winds of Mistral and Scirocco, has a really flat water that makes the spot super for all levels, even with a very strong wind. Love at first sight with this kite spot.

As said before, the kite spot of Punta Trettu has a wonderful shallow water. People that like to have a bit deeper water for practicing some tricks or jump can go downwind.

Go to Punta Trettu in Sardinia
First of all, after I have learned to kitesurf, I can say that Learning to kitesurf is not so hard how it seems.
After long time I would like to start with kitesurfing, I have attended a Kite Course just this year. As I was a completely beginner, I had a look on internet to find a easy and good spot for kitesurfing in one beautiful place in order to learn to kitesurf during my holidays. Punta Trettu Kite Center & Cafè in Sardinia, here I went! In Punta Trettu I decided for the super Kite Center Punta Trettu Kite Center & Cafè, part of KiteGeneration.
My Course in Punta Trettu: from Zero to Hero
After having a look at the proposed Beginner Kitesurfing Courses I decided for the Zero to Hero Kite Course. To be an independent kitesurfer it takes, for most of people, between 12 and 20 hours of kite lessons. But, a motivated person could go from zero to hero in less time. The kite lessons I had in Punta Trettu were always great and easy, and I go up on the board in a very short time. I had lessons every day, the wind was blowing all the time (Punta Trettu have super wind statistics) and the sun shining every day.
I changed instructor every day of lesson: Lucas, Mauro, Giorgio, Riccardo and Matias brought me to be an individual kitesurfer through the following steps learning to kitesurf.
My kite course
First I had to learn the proper kite theory and terminology so that your instructor could give me clear instructions. I learned how to set up the kite (it is used to harness the power of the wind to glide on the water) and how to make it fly on the space. While kitesurfing, we always stand with our back to the wind facing the same direction as the wind and we stay in the center of the space where the kite can fly and get power : this space is called wind window. Position of the kite in the wind window determines the power of the kite. The most powered position is when the kite is at 12:00 (directly in front of you), while the less powered positions are at 9 o’clock and 15 o’clock, exactly on our left or right.
The understanding of the wind window is the most important to know before to start to learn and practicing to control the kite, that takes more or less 5 hours.
After I got a good kite control, I moved up to the simulation of the water starts that means moving the kite through wind window to get the required power to let the kite lift us. This exercise were so important to understand where the power really is and how ito get the power, required for the water start.
After the simulation of the water start, I learned the Body Dragging, required in the water for safety reason and, when kite surfing, to recover the board in case we lost it.
I completed all the above steps in more or less 7 hours. After that I started the real water start on the water with the board: sitting in the water with the board on, keeping the board near the water surface, moving the kite in the correct position into the power zone, I tried and tried until I was gliding on the water.
All was great: The spot of Punta Trettu, The instructors, the services and obviously the fabulous sport of kitesurfing!
